| How to read your bill |
 |
Your monthly bill will provide details of all the billing components
which add up to the total due on your Heritage Gas bill. These will include:
-
Fixed
Monthly Customer Charge:
The monthly charge is for the fixed costs of your service line,
natural gas meter, and customer account administration.
-
Base
Energy Charge:
This charge is for Heritage Gas to deliver your natural gas through
its pipeline system.
-
Gas
Cost:
This charge is for the natural gas that you use. If you purchase
natural gas from a supplier other than Heritage Gas, this charge
will not appear.
-
HST:
Heritage Gas collects and remits the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST). The
HST applies to the total of all charges.
- Municipal Payment: Reflects the payment made to a Municipality
that allows Heritage Gas to install gas distribution facilities in the
Right of Way. Heritage Gas will collect and remit 5% of the total of
the Fixed Monthly Customer Charge and the Base Energy Charge to the
local municipality. The Gas Cost is excluded from this calculation.
- Late Payment Charge: Will apply to amounts not paid after
the statement due date.
Read Type
Actual – a meter reading provided by the meter reader
or customer.
Estimate – on the months we do not read the meter,
an estimate read is generated based on previous usage.
Calculation of Natural Gas
Consumption:
Your bill is for the units of energy or Gigajoules
(GJ) that you have used. Gigajoule (GJ) is a standard unit of energy in
the metric system of measurement.
To measure gas usage over a specific period of time,
subtract the previous reading from the present reading. Our meters register
gas in cubic metres which is then converted to Gigajoules in order to calculate
your gas consumption on your bill. The pressure factor is determined by
the atmospheric pressure and the elevation for the given location.
Volume m3 x Pressure x Energy (1m3 = .03945 GJ) x Cost
per GJ
