For Immediate Release CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR NATURAL GAS DISTRIBUTION IN AMHERST AWARDED Heritage Gas Limited. has announced that the construction contract for a natural gas distribution system in the Town of Amherst has been awarded to Robert B. Somerville Company Limited. of King City, Ontario. Robert B. Somerville will be responsible for the installation of the network of plastic and steel pipe mains and services that will bring natural gas to people and businesses in the Town of Amherst. R B. Somerville has successfully completed previous projects in Nova Scotia, including the 8” pipelines to the Strait of Canso. Robert B. Somerville has been involved in the pipeline and utility sector
since 1951. Activities include natural gas mainline, pipeline fabrication
and distribution pipeline construction and horizontal directional drilling.
Robert B. Somerville will begin construction after the long weekend. Initial activities include site preparation such as surveying and brush clearing. Materials, equipment and pipe will be moved to the job sites in and around Amherst. Robert B. Somerville is committed to maximizing the use of equipment and people from Nova Scotia to work on this project. “The recent stretch of bad weather has delayed construction plans, however,
having a reputable general contractor like Robert B. Somerville lead this
project will help ensure that we stay on track to begin delivering natural
gas to customers by September, 2005,” says Ray Ritcey, President of Heritage
Gas. The $10 million pipeline project will tie into the Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Amherst and continue to expand the gas distribution system throughout the Town of Amherst over the next few years. Construction will happen in multiple places including along the steel line, the Amherst Industrial Park, South Albion Road and areas contiguous where customer interest is sufficient to meet the economic test. Heritage Gas is pleased to have construction underway and looks forward to working with the Town of Amherst and Cumberland County to complete this project.
