Downtown Dartmouth Condos Going ‘Green’

Dartmouth, N.S. – Nova New England Limited, the development company behind downtown Dartmouth’s latest condo project, announced today that it will create the first new condominium construction in Nova Scotia to be fueled by natural gas.

“This is a very exciting project for many reasons, one of which is the fact that we are creating a living environment where natural gas will not only be the energy source for heat, but also for appliances, fireplaces, patio lighting and more,” said Nova New England’s Terry Brennan of the ‘Founders Corner’ project.

Nova New England Limited has designed for construction a 25-unit residential/commercial condominium complex on three adjoining parcels of land in the Dartmouth waterfront district called Dartmouth Founders Corner. This interconnected multi-building project is stylistically designed to capture the era of fondly remembered civic and commercial landmarks in the old town of Dartmouth, in a state-of-the-art, non-combustible concrete and steel building.

A crew from Heritage Gas broke ground on-site today to lay the pipe that will supply natural gas to the building. Downtown Dartmouth is now one of several locations in the province that are connected to a natural gas line.

“The true alliance witnessed here today is the fact that this complex will be designed to be environmentally friendly - bringing natural gas into the equation,” says Ray Ritcey, President of Heritage Gas. “By committing to natural gas service, Nova New England has opened the door for other businesses and residents in Downtown Dartmouth.”

In addition to creating a low-emission, energy-efficient building design, Founders Corner condominiums (located two blocks from the Dartmouth Ferry Terminal), will feature the security and comfort of fail-safe emergency power and heat, with a high-efficiency natural gas driven generator. “When the power does down, Founders Corner will stay up,” say representatives from Nova New England Limited.

Condominiums will be priced starting at $159,900 including HST. Reservations for the units will become available in 2006 with the expected date of completion being late that year. Sales information is available from Stacy Wentzell at HarbourSide Realty Ltd.
